Has HubSpot’s Website Grader dropped DMOZ?
HubSpot products help customers use and measure internet marketing techniques such as social media, blogging, and search engine optimization. One of their free products is Website Grader… which will review your website (or any website) for its search engine optimization qualities and then give you a report card with suggestions on how to improve the website.
The Website Grader program used to award points to a website that was listed in the DMOZ directory… however, approximately one month ago I noticed that the Website Grader program stopped using the DMOZ directory as a component in evaluating the marketing effectiveness of a website.
Hmmm… I wonder why Website Grader dropped DMOZ? Could it be that it is almost impossible to get a website listed in the DMOZ directory? Could it be that DMOZ is an elitist organization that doesn’t have the common courtesy to communicate with people who submit websites for inclusion in their directory?
I’m not here to suggest that Website Grader is the world’s answer in evaluating a website’s marketing effectiveness… however, I do consider it a tool in the website designer’s toolbox… and I applaud them for ignoring DMOZ.
Submit your website (or any website) to the Website Grader and see how your site compares with other websites.

I work at HubSpot as the product owner responsible for changes like this to website grader.
The reason we took dmoz out is because for most people, the open directory has become very difficult to get into. Largely because of inactivity and corruption.
Thanks for following WSG closely enough to notice this!
