Fort Worden State Park & Port Townsend's Larry Scott Trail - 4.30.2011

The Larry Scott Trail is 12 miles roundtrip... open to horses, bikes and hikers... we started at the Boat Yard in Port Townsend and rode our bikes out to the Discovery Bay Golf Course and then back to the boat yard.

Starting out at the Boat Yard... find the parking area by taking Haines Road at the stop light near the Safeway Store and driving to the water.

Larry Scott was a cycling enthusiast in Port Townsend who died in 1991. He and his wife Judy met with other cyclers weekly for long bicycle rides and were in search of dedicated mulit-use trails. Larry was the momentum in getting the trail established.

The next morning we rode our bikes up to Battery Hill at Fort Worden and looked down on the lighthouse at Point Wilson.

Alexander's Castle at Fort Worden... Reverend John Alexander built the castle in 1883 for a prospective Scottish bride in a style reminiscent of his native country. Traveling to Scotland to get his bride, Alexander found that his bride-to-be had married another.

An ~5 mile loop hike that travels along the beach on the north and east sides of Fort Worden State Park.
