We started from the trailhead at the end of the N. Bear Canyon Road... arrive early if you want to get a parking spot in the unpaved lot. An alternative starting place can be found at the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center, but you will have to pay to park there.

Lots of Saguaro Cactus on this hike.

Heading up Bear Canyon now... Gibbon Mountain is at the head of the canyon.

Continuing up the canyon and looking up at the canyon walls.

After hiking a bit more than 3 miles we have arrived at a spot where we can look across the canyon to the Seven Falls... we will follow the trail over to the large pool.

We have arrived at the large pool where the main trail ends.
P1130758.jpg
I decided to scramble a bit higher.
P1130769.jpg
Continuing higher.
P1130772.jpg
Looking down on three of the pools as I scramble higher.
P1130777.jpg
Beautiful... still going higher up.
P1130782.jpg
Up and up.
P1130784.jpg
That's it for today... time to head back down.
P1130787.jpg
Heading down... I can see the switchbacks across the canyon... a person could continue up those switchbacks and return to their car via Sabino Canyon... but it would be a 16 mile hike.

Heading back down Bear Canyon to our car... the city of Tucson is in the distance.

A blue monarch... our hike was 7.5 miles roundtrip, gaining 1188 feet of elevation... save 150 feet of elevation by stopping at the end of the main trail and skipping the scramble to the higher falls.
