Mount Ellinor - 7.8.2010
My general route to Mount Ellinor.
The trailhead starts at 3600 feet... a short hike... perhaps only 4 miles roundtrip... but it does gain 2300 feet of elevation.
Ellinor from the parking lot... and my general route to the summit.
Coming out of the trees at ~4500 feet... and a look at the ascent gully in the center of the photo.
In the gully now and looking back on Lake Cushman.
The gully narrows and gets steeper as you ascend.
About two-thirds of the way up the gully I started traversing west across the south face of Ellinor... and I'm looking back at the gully.
The south side of Ellinor... I will traverse to the lowest spot on the skyline.
Lake Cushman is getting larger... and the south end of Hood Canal in the upper left.
I've completed the traverse... time to more or less head straight up to the summit.
On the Ellinor summit (5920+)... looking at Mt. Washington... with Hood Canal in the distance on the right.
Pano shot of part of the Olympic Mountains from the Ellinor summit.
Looking across Hood Canal and Puget Sound to Mount Rainier.
A herd of goats in the lower right of the photo.
The goat committee is deciding who to send up to check me out on the summit.
This ragged old goat came up to check out ragman... didn't stay very long and returned to the herd.
Parts of Hood Canal and Lake Cushman from the Ellinor summit area.
Looking north at some of the Olympic Mountains.
Looking north at some of the Olympic Mountains.
I had missed the summer trail on the way up to the summit... but this pink ribbon got me back on track on my descent.
Lake Cushman is one very big lake.
Looking back up at part of the summer trail.
Three hikers resting about two-thirds of the way up the gully.
Mt. Ellinor and Mt. Washington... from the Alderbrook Inn near sunset.
