Point 10,300 - 8.18.2011
We spent 2 nights in Death Canyon... starting from the Death Canyon trailhead (6800') and hiking 5.5 miles to our camp (8300').
The second day we dayhiked 4 miles from our camp (8300') to Fox Creek Pass (9600')... then ~3 miles along the Death Canyon Shelf to Mt. Meek Pass (9726')... where I made the half-mile hike and climb of Point 10,300.

After hiking one mile we reached the Phelps Lake Overlook (7202').

The terrain levels out after hiking a total of ~3.5 miles.

Junction with the Static Divide Trail... but we will continue up Death Canyon toward Fox Creek Pass.

Obvious that the flower display was going to be very good.

The next morning we decided to hike up to Fox Creek Pass.
The further we hike into Death Canyon the more it opens up.

Views broaden as we near Fox Creek Pass... Mt. Meek on the left and The Grand in the distance on the right.
At Fox Creek Pass (~9600') now... where we will connect with the Teton Crest Trail and use it to cross the Death Canyon Shelf to Mt. Meek Pass.

From the Death Canyon Shelf we are looking across Death Canyon to Prospectors Mountain (left).
I was thinking about trying to do Mt. Bannon or Mt. Meek... but the only weakness in the cliffs was in the center of the photo.
From a distance I couldn't see how to get up the first cliff band... so on to Mt. Meek Pass.
Still plenty of water on the Death Canyon Shelf... Prospectors Mountain on the right.
Mount Meek on the left... but I will continue toward the pass and do Point 10,300 on the far right.

Point 10,300 is a pile of rubble for the most part.
Steeper than it looks here as I work my way to the summit.

Looking south from Point 10,300... Death Canyon is in the center of the photo... and the Death Canyon Shelf is on the right... summits along the right are Fossil, Bannon, Jedediah Smith and Meek... Prospectors Mountain on the far left.

Leaving Point 10,300 to head back to camp.
About a mile back along the Death Canyon Shelf, I decided to make the steep drop down into Death Canyon... saving at least 5 miles of hiking to get back to camp.
The idea is to head down toward the large rock outcropping about half way between the canyon floor and the shelf.
Looking down Death Canyon as I head for camp... the day hike was ~10 miles, gaining ~2300 feet of elevation.
