Amabilis Mountain - 1.23.2012
The Cabin Creek Sno-Park (2460') is located at Exit 63 on I-90... ~11 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass.
The information board at the Sno-Park... Amabilis Mountain is in the distance... you will need both a regular sno-park permit and a groomed permit to park and ski here.
Denali Girl crossing I-90 to get from the sno-park over to the ski area.
Dealing with last minute details.
A few inches of fresh snow since the road was groomed a couple of days earlier.
Ski a short distance and you have two options... both will get you to the starting point for Amabilis Mountain.
We followed the sign leading towards the groomed Berg run.
The turn off for Amabilis is well marked... this turnoff is also signed as FS 4822.
Denali Girl is heading uphill now... Keechelus Ridge in the distance.
The first two miles of 4822 are groomed... the trough was at least 6 inches deep... with ~2 inches of fresh snow.
Enough snow to cover my skis when they aren't in the trough.
It was cold here last night.
Denali Girl continues up the road.
At the two mile mark now... looking back toward Keechelus Lake, Tinkham Peak and Silver Peak.
At the 2.5 mile mark... looking back toward Snoqualmie Pass... no grooming beyond the 2 mile mark... the trough is deeper and the fresh snow covers my skis now.
A closeup of Keechelus Lake... clouds are covering the peaks.
Nearing the Amabilis plateau... wish Denali Girl hadn't stopped at the half way point.
The Amabilis Plateau.
Silver Peak (left center) is out of the clouds now... Granite Mountain is the blob of white on the right.
Heading toward the Kachess Lake overlook.
Chilly up here.

I think I will head over toward the Amabilis summit to see if I can get a better look at the mountains.
Mountain views are coming.
Chimney Rock and Three Queens in the distance.
Chimney Rock, Three Queens, Bears Breast, Hinman and Daniel... with Little Kachess Lake below.

So close to the summit... but not today.
The south end of Kachess Lake... looking toward Easton.
Back at the Amabilis Plateau now... Granite Mountain (left)... with Kaleetan, Denny, Chair and Roosevelt clumped together on the right.
From the plateau... looks like Hibox has come out of the clouds.
Left to right... Hibox, Lemah, Chimney Rock and Three Queens... a 4 mile ski will get me back to the car.
