North Dome and Indian Rock - Yosemite National Park - 8.20.2012
North Dome is a hike of 8.8 miles roundtrip, gaining 1500 feet of elevation... add another .6 miles if you also do Indian Rock... gaining ~200 feet more.
For the shortest route, use the Porcupine Creek trailhead on the south side of Tioga Road... 1.3 miles east of the Porcupine Flat Campground.
Looking up... most of this hike is in the forest.
Denali Girl at one of the rock outcroppings along the way.
Almost out of the trees.
First good view of Half Dome (left)... but still a ways to go to get out to North Dome (right).
Looking back to where we came out of the trees... there are nice views there also, but not as nice as those on North Dome.
I'm on North Dome here... I needed to deal with that steep cliff in the center of the photo, but there was a huge crack in it that helped get me down to the trees.
Clouds Rest from North Dome... granite anyone?
From North Dome we are looking across Tenaya Canyon to Clouds Rest and Half Dome.
Looking down on Yosemite Valley from North Dome.
On the way back to the car we decided to take the .3 mile hike out to Indian Rock.
Denali Girl on the way to Indian Rock... which doesn't look all that interesting from this angle.
Indian Rock is the only natural arch in Yosemite National Park.
