Hex Mountain and Peak 5159 - 2.11.2015
Directions from the Brick Tavern in Roslyn, Washington to where we parked (~2400') to start our hike to Hex Mountain and Peak 5159.

A closer look at where we parked on Newport Creek Drive. The gate was closed or we could have driven another 1.5 miles to the summer trailhead.

From the Salmon La Sac Road, we drove a very short distance up Newport Creek Drive and parked (~2400') at the gate.

After hiking the road for 10 or 15 minutes we came to a 'Y' in the road. Stay right at the 'Y' where there is a swatch of blue paint near two power boxes... and the flagging a short distance up the road might also be there to help you find the best route.

After hiking the road for ~1.5 miles we have arrived at the summer trailhead (~3480').

Off of the road now and heading for Sasse Ridge on the snow free trail.

My oh my... we can see Sasse Ridge above... and there is very little snow.

Izzy found a patch of snow to relax in a short distance below Sasse Ridge.

After a total of 3 miles of hiking we have reached Sasse Ridge (~4840')... Hex Mountain is an 8 minute hike to the south... but we will turn to the north and head for Peak 5159.

We will use the Sasse Mountain Trail... and follow it for ~2 miles to Peak 5159.

There were patches of ice and snow on the Sasse Mountain Trail... but not very much.

From Peak 5159 we can see Red Mountain in the left foreground... with Davis Peak in the right foreground... with the snow covered peaks of Summit Chief, Bears Breast, Hinman and Daniel in between.
