Hibox Mountain - 10.15.2015
A photo of the GPS track for our trip to Hibox Mountain... ~8 miles roundtrip, gaining 4110 feet of elevation.
We parked (~2800') at the end of FS-4930 and started hiking on Rachel Lake Trail #1313.
A mile or so into the hike we came to a pretty waterfall.
Our first good look at the summit of Hibox Mountain... and the approximate route that we will take to get to the east ridge of Hibox.
After hiking the Rachel Lake Trail for ~2.5 miles we have reached the junction (~3280') with the unsigned path that we will take to head up to Hibox.
There is a pretty good path that leads up to Hibox... but note that there is some down trees that try to hide the path from you... in this photo I have already crossed over the down trees and I am looking back at BarbE on the Rachel Lake Trail.
Now that we are off of the Rachel Lake Trail, Izzy and Luna are happy to be off-leash and free to lead us up to Hibox.
Yes... we are on a pretty good path.
The path is a little brushy for the first 800 feet of elevation.
The path is also very steep in places.
Continuing on the path that leads up to Hibox.
Out of the trees now... but the terrain is still very steep in places.
The summit is up there someplace... but it is not visible in this photo... we will be heading for the east ridge... on the right side of the pyramid in the center of the photo.
Still continuing up on steep terrain... looking back down Box Canyon toward where we parked our car.

We will skip this gully also... and continue on to the east ridge of Hibox.
We have reached the east ridge of Hibox... and will head up on an obvious path.
