Water Canyon - 4.10.2016
A photo of the GPS track of our trip up Water Canyon and beyond... located in the Canaan Mountains... 6.4 miles roundtrip, gaining ~2000 feet of elevation. The GPS track got a little convoluted in the narrow part of the canyon.
The last mile or so of the Water Canyon Road can get a little muddy when it rains... and the previous day's rain made the road very challenging.
We will get a good car wash in the town of Hildale after the hike.
Heading up Water Canyon.
Water Canyon is fairly wide at the beginning of the hike... looking back down the canyon as we continue up canyon on a reasonable path.
The canyon starts to narrow.
The path stays on the west side of the canyon floor... looks like BarbE has found a new friend.
Above the slot... occasionally we found an obstacle.
Snowdog better hope that tree doesn't give way.
A bit more challenging here... path is on the left.
I continued up a ways... looking down on the gang as they take a break.
Ascending above the slot.
High enough now to see some slickrock.
More slickrock.
Not quite sure what Snowdog is doing here... but it looks like she is taunting me.
Above the canyon walls now and continuing.
Back into the slickrock... and great rock formations.
Relaxing on a cow pie.
Slickrock everywhere.
Lets go up some slickrock.
Is this natural or man-made?
A close up of the White Domes on Canaan Mountain... our original goal... but we ran out of time.
Slickrock and more slickrock.
Interesting rock formations.
Snowdog relaxes... looks like some serious clouds are moving in.
I continued up a bit to my high point of 6920+.
A selfie from my high point.
A break before heading back to the car.
Toad stool... or mushroom?
Slickrock.
Some Class 2 climbing.
Definitely a few Class 2 sections.
Almost out of the narrow part of the canyon.
A selfie in Water Canyon... tomman, me, Snowdog and BarbE.
Almost out of the narrow part of the canyon and we saw this group canyoneering in the slot... we still have more than a mile left to get back to the car... and we will barely beat the rain.
