Willow Hole - 1.24.2017
Not sure why the sign says Keys West, but the trailhead for this hike is the Boy Scout Trail in Joshua Tree National Park... a 6.5 mile drive from the West Entrance to the park.
We will hike the Boy Scout Trail for 1.2 flat miles and connect with the Willow Hole Trail.
Denali Girl, Nanda and Anna Purna hanging out with a Joshua Tree.
Love the Joshua trees.
After hiking 1.2 miles we will leave the Boy Scout Trail and start hiking on the Willow Hole Trail.
Looking back at the field of Joshua trees we just hiked through... with a nice desert sky above.
The snow covered San Bernardino Mountains on the horizon.
Heading for the Wonderland of Rocks.
Taking a break in the Wonderland of Rocks... lots of rocks to choose from.
Yucca Cactus.
We have left the open desert and are entering the Wonderland of Rocks.
Looks like the last mile or so of hiking to Willow Hole might be a wet one.
Denail Girl and Nanda are doing some boulder hopping.
The path is narrow in places.
One giant step for Nanda.
Denali Girl passes through a narrow part of the path.
A large wash in the Wonderland of Rocks.
Having some fun near the Willow Hole.
Almost there.
Willow Hole... we will fight through the tree branches and find a place for lunch.
Yes... it froze here last night.
Maybe we can find a nice lunch spot over by the big boulder.
The ladies take a break while I scramble up a little higher.
One of many many walls of rock in the Wonderland of Rocks... after lunch we traced our steps back to the car... 7.25 miles roundtrip, gaining 255 feet of elevation.
Posing near the Cottonwood Entrance of the park... after our hike near the west entrance we drove through the park and came out on the south side of the park.
