Longsway Traverse - 6.19.2018

We parked one car at the Iron Peak Trailhead... then drove our second car up to the end of N. Fork Teanaway Road (aka FS-9737) and started hiking on Esmeralda Basin Trail #1394.

After hiking Esmeralda Basin Trail for .3 miles we turned right on to Ingalls Way Trail #1390 which isn't shown on the sign... but you can see that someone has carved 'Lk Ingalls' on the sign showing it going to the right.

After hiking Ingalls Way Trail for 1.3 miles we will take Longs Pass Trail #1229.

Continuing up Longs Pass Trail and looking over to Fortune Peak and Ingalls Peak... you can see the Ingalls Way Trail in the bottom of the photo.

After hiking the Longs Pass Trail for one mile we have reached Longs Pass... and got this view of 'Not Hinkhouse' Peak in the left-center foreground and the Stuart Range... South Ingalls Peak and Ingalls Peak can be seen between the unnamed bump in the left foreground and 'Not Hinkhouse' Peak.

From Longs Pass we are looking at Esmeralda Peaks and Hawkins Mountain in the foreground... with Mt. Rainier way off in the distance behind Jolly Mountain on the left.

We have crossed over Longsway Peak (aka Point 6494)... heading toward the intimidating rock outcropping... we will try and reach its summit by traversing over to the saddle on the left and then try and find a route to the summit from the other side.

We are packing a scramble rope... however, it would take a lot more than that to stand on top of this... time to retreat back to the saddle.

After hiking 2.8 miles from the Iron/Teanaway saddle we have reached the Iron Peak Trailhead... we will get in our first car and drive it up to our second car at the Esmeralda Basin Trailhead... our thru-hike was 8.5 miles, gaining 3132 feet of elevation.
