Longsway Traverse - 6.19.2018
We parked one car at the Iron Peak Trailhead... then drove our second car up to the end of N. Fork Teanaway Road (aka FS-9737) and started hiking on Esmeralda Basin Trail #1394.
After hiking Esmeralda Basin Trail for .3 miles we turned right on to Ingalls Way Trail #1390 which isn't shown on the sign... but you can see that someone has carved 'Lk Ingalls' on the sign showing it going to the right.
After hiking Ingalls Way Trail for 1.3 miles we will take Longs Pass Trail #1229.
Esmeralda Peaks and Fortune Peak from the junction of Ingalls Way Trail and Longs Pass Trail.
Continuing up Longs Pass Trail and looking over to Fortune Peak and Ingalls Peak... you can see the Ingalls Way Trail in the bottom of the photo.
After hiking the Longs Pass Trail for one mile we have reached Longs Pass... and got this view of 'Not Hinkhouse' Peak in the left-center foreground and the Stuart Range... South Ingalls Peak and Ingalls Peak can be seen between the unnamed bump in the left foreground and 'Not Hinkhouse' Peak.
From Longs Pass we are looking at Esmeralda Peaks and Hawkins Mountain in the foreground... with Mt. Rainier way off in the distance behind Jolly Mountain on the left.
South Ingalls and Ingalls Peak are between the unnamed bump on the left and 'Not Hinkhouse' Peak on the right.
The guardian of Longs Pass... part of the Stuart Range on the left.
Hiking south from Longs Pass... heading for Longsway Peak and the rugged looking ridge that will take us over to Teanaway Peak on the far left.
Continuing south along the ridge from Longs Pass.
Heading for Longsway Peak in the right foreground... in front of that intimidating looking unnamed block summit.
Nearing the north ridge of Longsway Peak (aka Point 6494).
rocman coming up the north ridge of Longsway Peak.
We have crossed over Longsway Peak (aka Point 6494)... heading toward the intimidating rock outcropping... we will try and reach its summit by traversing over to the saddle on the left and then try and find a route to the summit from the other side.
We will eventually work our way out to Teanaway Peak on the far left.
rocman down climbs a steep gully near the base of the intimidating rock outcropping.
Out of the steep gully and heading over toward the saddle.
Paying special attention here as we head for the saddle.
Working our way over to the saddle... Bills Peak in the left foreground.
Still looking for that saddle on the south side of the intimidating rock outcropping... the snow field is much steeper than it appears in the photo.
Finally on the saddle.
Looking up at the intimidating rock outcropping from the saddle area... from here it looks like a technical climb, but we are going up higher to take a look.
rocman working his way up toward the summit area of the intimidating rock outcropping.
We are packing a scramble rope... however, it would take a lot more than that to stand on top of this... time to retreat back to the saddle.
Retreating from the summit block of the intimidating rock outcropping... Bills Peak in the left foreground... Teanaway Peak is shaded in the center of the photo, but there are several bumps to go up and down on the way over to it... Iron Peak is in the distance on the far right.
Back near the saddle... time to start picking off the bumps along the ridge leading over to Teanaway Peak.
rocman heading for the first ridge bump just SE from the saddle.
Looking back as we continue on the ridge toward Teanaway Peak... showing our approximate route from Longs Pass and how we used the steep gully to get down and over to the saddle on the SE side of the intimidating rock outcropping.
A broader look at our route from Longs Pass.
Just another bump on the ridge leading over to Teanaway Peak.
rocman nearing one of the high points on the ridge.
Can you say 'give me another'... Bills Peak in the left foreground.
Continuing along the ridge toward Teanaway Peak... bumps, bumps and more bumps.
We will go around the bump in the foreground and head for the top of the bump on the left.
Up and over one bump and heading for the next one... Teanaway Peak is shaded behind the bump in the foreground... Iron Peak is in the distance on the right.
Looking back... we can see most of our route from Longs Pass on the far right.

Continuing down the SE ridge of Teanaway Peak... Iron Peak in the distance.
Following a pretty good path along the south side of Teanaway Peak... heading for the saddle in the distance.
Almost at the Iron/Teanaway saddle... we will have a 2.8 mile hike to get back to the Iron Peak Trailhead and our first car.
After hiking 2.8 miles from the Iron/Teanaway saddle we have reached the Iron Peak Trailhead... we will get in our first car and drive it up to our second car at the Esmeralda Basin Trailhead... our thru-hike was 8.5 miles, gaining 3132 feet of elevation.
