Teanaway Peak and Iron Peak - 11.20.2018

The Trailhead (3960') for Iron Peak is just off of FS-9737... an 8.6 mile drive from the entrance to 29 Pines Campground... you can see Esmeralda Peak... up valley from the trailhead.

After hiking ~2.5 miles we have reached the Iron Peak/Teanaway Peak saddle (~6200')... here we are looking at the .75 ridge hike out to the Iron Peak summit... we will do this after we have finished with Teanaway Peak.

iraman and I decided to take the Class 3/4 direct route toward the Teanaway Peak summit while the rest of our party continued to traverse the SE side of Teanaway Peak on the obvious path.

The crux of the south ridge is a 10 foot, Class 4 downclimb where there is absolutely no room for error.

Back at the Iron/Teanaway saddle... a 2.5 mile hike will get us back to the car... the scramble/hike was 7.5 miles roundtrip... gaining 3256 feet of elevation.
