Panorama Point in the Wonderland of Rocks - 1.28.2019
The unpaved parking area for this unsigned trailhead is located less than a half-mile NE from the very popular Barker Dam paved parking lot.
Hiking on the obvious path that will take a person out to the Wall Street Stamp Mill... but we will take the path leading off to the left after hiking a very short distance.
We have reached the Worth Bagley homestead after hiking less than a quarter mile... the homestead is also referred to as the Wonderland Ranch and the Pink House.
We have hiked a mile or so in the Wonderland of Rocks and get our first good look at the Astro Domes... very popular sport climbing area.
Continuing north in the wonderland... locals refer to the rock formation in the center of the photo as 'The Camel'.
Heading east now in the wonderland... with the Red Obelisk in the distance... the west end of Queen Mountain is on the horizon.
Continuing east and looking back at the Red Obelisk.
Starting to angle NE in the wonderland.
Hiking one of the washes in the wonderland.
Lots of awesome rocks in the wonderland.
Looking back up the wash we are using.
Where in the world is Star Dancer taking us?
Denali Girl and dksman watch as Star Dancer takes us down under this monster boulder.
Looking back at the huge boulder we came through... or was it under?... does anyone else see an angry looking face on the big boulder?
Continuing NE in the wonderland.
Continuing NE in the wonderland.
We kind of hit a dead end in our wash... time to scramble down into another wash.
We have headed north again... in our new wash.
Looking over at the west end of Queen Mountain as we continue north in the wonderland.
Locals call it 'The Shrine'... obvious living quarters at one time... lots of petroglyphs.
'The Shrine' up close.
Underneath 'The Shrine'.
Star Dancer leads us down into 'The Chute'.
Denali Girl heads down 'The Chute'.
dksman starts down 'The Chute'.
Looking back at 'The Chute'... all I can say is 'shoot'.
Looks like we are close enough to touch the west end of Queen Mountain.
Star Dancer is leading us out to what I call Panorama Point.
Welcome to Panorama Point... looking into the northern portion of the Wonderland of Rocks.
Leaving Panorama Point and heading to 'Flower Henge'.
Scrambling our way up to a higher wash.
Looking over at the west end of Queen Mountain.
More or less tracing our steps back the way we came in.
A dead end in this wash... so just scramble up to another one.
And here is the next wash.
Time to scramble up again.
On our way to 'Flower Henge'.

A little more up will be necessary.

Heading back out of the Wonderland of Rocks.
Hiking another wash.
Coming up to another wash.
We are back in the main wash... no more up today... and no more scrambling.
We have closed the loop portion of our hike and have a couple miles of hiking left to get back to the car.
The wonderland is just as awesome hiking out as it is hiking in.
Hiking south out of the Wonderland of Rocks.
Hiking south out of the Wonderland of Rocks.
Almost out of the wonderland.
Back at the 'Pink House'... less than a quarter-mile from the car.
Beautiful sky... back at the parking area... our trip was 8 miles, gaining 750 feet of elevation.
