Hemingway Loop - 2.1.2019
From the west entrance pay station of Joshua Tree National Park... drive 7.8 miles on Park Blvd and turn right into the Hemingway parking area.
It isn't an official tral, but the path from the parking lot is obvious... we are heading directly for the Hemingway Buttress.
A closer look at Hemingway Buttress... we will turn to the south and see if we can find Hidden Valley.
Awesome rock formations beyond Hemingway Buttress.
We will have to do a little scrambling here... giving up 75 feet of elevation to drop into Hidden Valley.
Looking back at the 75 feet of elevation that we just gave up to get down to Hidden Valley... there was a pretty good route down that jumble of boulders.
todman is boulder hopping in Hidden Valley.
todman working the rocks.
Looking for a route that will allow us to make a loop hike out of the trip.
Still scrambling in Hidden Valley.
Uh-oh... kind of a dead end... time to work the boulders again.
todman dodges a yucca cactus.
Looking back at our route... we came from somewhere in the right-center of the photo.
Off of the rocks and looking back into Hidden Valley as we loop back to the car.
We can see the Hemingway parking lot... our loop trip was 1.5 miles, gaining 250 feet of elevation.
