Point 4514 - 1.17.2020
We parked at a pullout next to Park Blvd... located 2.3 miles from the west entrance pay station of Joshua Tree National Park... our target is the high point of the rock piles out there on the right.
We will start hiking on the Creosote Trail... although the trail sign is not visible from the parking area.
Hiking on the Creosote Trail... heading for Point 4514 in the center of the photo.
After hiking a half-mile on the Creosote Trail we will connect with and head south on the Bigfoot Trail.
After hiking the Bigfoot Trail for less than a half-mile we will head west on the Panorama Trail.
Hiking on the Panorama Trail... with Point 4514 in the distance.
We have left the Panorama Trail and are heading cross-country for Point 4514... here I am looking back at the flatish area of Quail Springs Wash... Quail Mountain (the high point in the park) is in the distance on the far right.
Gaining elevation toward Point 4514... just letting the terrain tell us where to go.
Continuing up toward Point 4514... the bump on the left.
Denali Girl leads the way toward Point 4514.
Fairly easy terrain as we near the top of Point 4514.
High enough to see The Maze on the horizon... just on the other side of Park Blvd that runs from left to right across the center of the photo.
The summit area of Point 4514.
The summit of Point 4514... with the huge Yucca Valley beyond... no idea what this little wire thingy is.
Denali Girl on the summit of Point 4514... with The Maze behind her in the distance... Yucca Valley on the extreme far left... Quail Springs Wash in the right foreground... with Queen Mountain on the right-center horizon... and Ryan Mountain on the far right horizon.
Looking beyond Covington Flat to a snow covered San Gorgonio Mountain on the horizon.
A lot of fun boulders on the summit of Point 4514.
We have left the top of Point 4514 and decided to check out an interesting bump that is ~25 feet lower than Point 4514.
Denali Girl starts scrambling up to Point 4488.
Denali Girl on top of Point 4488... it was harder to get here than it was in getting to Point 4514.
Leaving Point 4488... time to head cross-country back to our car.
Heading for our car... Park Blvd goes left to right across the center of the photo... The Maze stretches from the left end of the photo to the center of the photo... Queen Mountain is on the far right horizon.
Denali Girl is working her way down from points 4514 and 4488.
Back on flatter terrain and heading for the car.
Still heading cross-country for the car... very close now... our loop scramble was 2.5 miles, gaining 677 feet of elevation.
