Sisters Mirror Lakes - 8.28.2020
We parked at the trailhead for Mirror Lakes Trail #20... an eighth of a mile off of Cascade Lakes Highway (aka County Hwy 46).
After hiking a tenth of a mile we crossed into Three Sisters Wilderness.
After hiking a little more than a half-mile we crossed over the Elk-Devils Trail #12 and continued on Mirror Lakes Trail #20.
After hiking 2.5 miles we arrived at an unnamed pond... I believe that is Koosah Mountain at the far end of the lake.
After hiking 3.6 miles we reached a junction with the PCT and Nash Lake Trail #3527... we will follow the PCT for a short distance.
After hiking 3.7 miles (only hiking the PCT for a tenth of a mile) we reached a junction with an unmaintained trail... and we will take the unmaintained trail.
After hiking a total of 3.9 miles we are hiking on the unmaintained trail around the north end of Sisters Mirror Lake.
After hiking 4.1 miles we reached an unnamed lakelet.
After hiking four and a quarter miles we reached the east end of Lancelot Lake.
Continuing along a good path that takes us along the south shoreline of Lancelot Lake... we were here 28 years ago and there was no path.
On the south shore of Lancelot Lake... about halfway between the west end and east end of the lake... 28 years ago we ran into a ranger here... and he said that he had never seen anyone at the lake.
We decided to continue around the lake... now on the west side of the lake... looking back toward the east end of the lake.
Now on the NW end of Lancelot Lake... we will trace our steps back a short distance and head cross-country for some of the other lakes.
After hiking a total of 5 miles we have reached the NE corner of Denude Lake.
Continuing cross country we found the south end of Bounty Lake a very short distance from Denude Lake.
After hiking 5.2 miles we reached the north end of Camelot Lake.
After hiking 5.4 miles we have returned to Sisters Mirror Lake... this time on the south side of the lake... where we have found the PCT.
Hiking on the PCT... along the south side of Sisters Mirror Lake... 28 years ago we could see a lot more of South Sister on the horizon.
A closer look at South Sister from the south end of Sisters Mirror Lake... we will continue hiking NE on the PCT to close the loop portion of the hike.
After hiking 5.8 miles we are closing the loop portion of our hike... and will follow a combination of the PCT and Mirror Lakes Trail back to our car... the total trip was 9.5 miles, gaining 712 feet of elevation.
