Paulina Peak and Point 7897 - 9.28.2020
A 30 minute drive from our home in La Pine, Oregon... driving the Paulina Lake Road from Hwy 97... then drive the Paulina Peak Road (aka Road 500) for a half-mile to the trailhead for the Crater Rim Trail #57.

After hiking more than a mile we started getting nice views of Paulina Lake in the foreground... with distant views of Mt. Bachelor, Three Sisters, Broken Top, Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood.

Similar views as the last photo, but we can see East Lake coming into view beyond the north buttresses of Paulina Peak.

After hiking 1.8 miles we reached the trail junction of the Crater Rim Trail #57 and Paulina Peak Trail #51... we will follow the Paulina Peak Trail for a quarter mile on up to the summit.

Nearing the Paulina Peak Parking Lot which is very near the summit... and yes, we could have driven up to the parking lot.

After hiking a total of 2.2 miles, Denali Girl is standing on the summit (7984') of Paulina Peak... maybe 30 feet above the summit parking lot... with Bachelor, Three Sisters, Broken Top, Jefferson and many others on the horizon.

We left the Paulina summit and walked out to the NE end of the parking lot for this look down on the Big Obsidian Flow.

Heading back down the trail from the summit now... we decided to head cross country for Point 7897 in the distance.

We have reached the summit block of Point 7897... which has a much more summit feel to it than the main summit of Paulina Peak.

After hiking a total of 2.9 miles we are standing on the summit of Point 7897... here looking back at the main summit of Paulina Peak on the far right.

Denali Girl comes down from the summit of Point 7897... time to take a cross country shortcut back to rejoin the Crater Rim Trail that will take us back to our car... the hike was a total of 4.6 miles, gaining 1655 feet of elevation.
