Tumalo Mountain - 12.2.2020
Saw this herd of 31 elk while driving from our home in La Pine, Oregon, toward Sunriver... on our way to snowshoe up to Tumalo Mountain.
We parked at Dutchman Flat Sno-Park... across the highway from the Sunrise Lodge entrance to Mount Bachelor... elevation ~6350 feet.
Every step to the summit of Tumalo Mountain is pretty much uphill... here looking back across the sno-park to Mount Bachelor.
The first half-mile is pretty much in the trees.
Continuing uphill... with an occasional view back to Mount Bachelor.
After hiking approximately one mile we got our first really good view of the Tumalo summit area.
Watching Denali Girl snowshoe her way up to join me... every step higher gives a better view of Mount Bachelor.
High enough now to get a nice view of Sparks Lake in the distance.
Looking south to Paulina Peak ( the high point on the left horizon)... with Mount Bachelor on the far right.
South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top from the Tumalo summit area... the Tumalo summit is in the right foreground.
From the summit area of Tumalo I'm looking south to Paulina Peak on the extreme far left... and SW to Mount Bachelor in the center of the photo.
A pano shot looking north from the summit (7775') of Tumalo Mountain to South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top... Tam McArthur Rim runs along the ridge from Broken Top to the right edge of the photo... with Sparks Lake in the distance on the left.
Denali Girl got this shot of me posing on the Tumalo summit.
Denali Girl poses as we head down from the Tumalo summit... just another sparkling day in Central Oregon.
Back at Dutchman Flat Sno-Park... the hike was a total of 2.9 miles, gaining 1448 feet of elevation.
