Valhalla Dome - 4.9.2021
We parked at the unpaved parking lot for the 'Wall Street Mill'... located a quarter mile NE from the paved parking lot for Barker Dam.
This also acts as an overflow parking lot for Barker Dam... we will start hiking for the Wall Street Mill.
After hiking an eighth of a mile we will leave the Wall Street Mill Trail and go to the left on an obvious, but unsigned, path.
We reached the Wonderland Ranch (aka Worth Bagley Ranch) in less than 5 minutes after leaving the Wall Street Mill Trail.
Entering the Wonderland of Rocks.
Continuing north in the Wonderland of Rocks.
When you get to Shark Rock the terrain will start to open up some.
When you can see the 'Astro Dome' it is time to kind of reverse course and head back to the south... doing some rock scrambling.
Time for some rock scrambling.
Getting ready to go up a rock ladder.
Climbing the first of two rock ladders.
A short time after going up the first rock ladder the terrain opens up a little bit... we are heading for the gap in the center of the photo... with Valhalla Dome the high point on the right.
Star Dancer gets ready to lead us into a cave.
Taking a break in the shade of the cave.
Getting ready to start climbing a second rock ladder.
The gang is at the top of the second rock ladder.
Shortly after going up the second rock ladder we are on easier terrain and almost on top of Valhalla Dome.
Pretty much on the Valhalla Dome summit... here I'm watching the troops come up to join me on the summit... with Ryan Mountain on the center horizon... Queen Valley on the left... Lost Horse Valley on the right leading out to the Little San Bernardino Mountains.
Heading over to a cave just beyond the summit of Valhalla Dome... with the Astro Dome on the center horizon.
The cave near the Valhalla Dome summit.
We are making a loop out of the trip by going down some steep slabs to the Barker Lake and Barker Dam area.
Looking back at Valhall Dome as I'm in the dry lake bed of Barker Lake.
Barker Dam.
A quarter mile or so from Barker Dam we have reached the paved Barker Dam parking lot... but we still have a quarter mile hike to get over to the unpaved parking lot where we parked to begin our hike.
Back at the unpaved parking lot for the 'Wall Street Mill'... the loop hike was 2.6 miles, gaining 406 feet of elevation.
