I started this hike from the trailhead for Green Lakes Trail #17.
P1080815.jpg
Crossing Fall Creek after only hiking a tenth of a mile.
P1080816.jpg
Entering Three Sisters Wilderness after crossing the bridge in the previous photo.
P1080817.jpg
The trail pretty much follows along Fall Creek all the way to the Green Lakes.
P1080819.jpg
There are lots of beautiful waterfalls in Fall Creek.
P1080821.jpg
After hiking a total of 2.2 miles I reached the junction with Moraine Lake Trail #17.1... where I will continue on Green Lakes Trail #17.
P1080822.jpg
Within a half mile from the junction with Moraine Lake Trail #17.1 there were two bridge crossings of Fall Creek.
P1080825.jpg
From mile 3.4 to mile 4.4 the trail follows along the east end of the Newberry Lava Flow... with South Sister in the distance.
P1080829.jpg
After hiking a total of 4.5 miles I made a slightly uphill 50 yard walk to see the first of the three Green Lakes... one that can be easily missed if not paying attention... with Broken Top in the distance.
P1080830.jpg
After passing the Newberry Lava Flow on the left, a broader view of South Sister appears as I near the largest of the three Green Lakes.
P1080831.jpg
After hiking a total of 4.9 miles I have reached the south shore line of the largest of the three Green Lakes... and the lake is actually considerably larger than shown in the photo... with Point 8040 across the lake... with Broken Top on the far right.
P1080834.jpg
I decided to circumnavigate the large lake in a counter clockwise direction... heading east around the south side of the lake.
P1080835.jpg
Now on the east side of the lake... looking at the little treed bump where I first reached the lake... with South Sister beyond.
P1080841.jpg
Continuing to hike along the east side of the largest of the three Green Lakes... with a reflection of South Sister in the lake.
P1080843.jpg
After hiking a total of 6 miles I have passed beyond the largest lake and found the third lake.
P1080849.jpg
From the little third lake I have headed cross country along the north side of the large lake... with Broken Top on the far left... and that is Mount Bachelor showing itself on the horizon in the center of the photo.
P1080852.jpg
Beautiful fall colors as I continue hiking along the north side of the large lake directly toward South Sister.
P1080853.jpg
I had to continue hiking a quarter mile beyond the north side of the lake before I could find a comfortable place to cross the stream that comes down from the Lewis Glacier on South Sister... Broken Top on the far left... with Mount Bachelor and the east end of the Newberry Lava Flow on the far right.
P1080855.jpg
Now heading back toward the west side of the large lake after having successfully making the stream crossing.
P1080856.jpg
Voila... I have found a path on the west side of the large lake... which will take me back to where I first reached the lake.
P1080857.jpg
Nearing the south side of the large lake... where I will complete my circumnavigation of the large lake.
P1080859.jpg
Looking back at South Sister after hiking a total of 7.3 miles... I have crossed the outlet for the large lake... completing the circumnavigation of the large lake... and now time to trace my steps back to the car.
P1080860.jpg
Heading for the car as I hike back along Fall Creek and the east end of the Newberry Lava Flow.
P1080861.jpg
A last look at South Sister.
P1080862.jpg
Continuing to hike along Fall Creek and the east end of the Newberry Lava Flow... the total hike was 12.1 miles, gaining 1200 feet of elevation.
