Tumalo Mountain - 11.21.2021
We parked at the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park... across the Cascade Lakes Hwy from the Sunrise Lodge entrance to Mount Bachelor... with South Sister in the distance.
Tumalo Mountain Trail #38 is the main route up to the Tumalo summit... and it is located at the north end of the sno-park... but today we will pass by the main trailhead and take the Flagline Access Trail #40.1 which goes past the restroom in the photo.
As we continued hiking north from the restrooms on the Flagline Access Trail it was only a 25 yard side trip from the trees out into Dutchman Flat for this view of Mount Bachelor.

Back in the trees and continuing to hike north on the Flagline Access Trail which borders the east end of Dutchman Flat.
After hiking the Flagline Access Trail for 1.4 miles we have left the trail and headed cross country... letting the easiest terrain possible guide us up the NW side of Tumalo Mountain.
Another sparkling day in central Oregon!
Tumalo Mountain in the distance... we still have some work to do.
Gaining elevation and looking back to the NW at South Sister, Middle Sister, Broken Top and Ball Butte.
Still gradually gaining elevation on the NW side of Tumalo Mountain... with every step up providing a broader view of South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top.
Reeling in Tumalo Mountain.
After hiking a total of 3 miles the terrain has got steeper.

After hiking a total of 3.3 miles we have reached the summit (7775') of Tumalo Mountain... with Mount Bachelor on the far left... and South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top on the right... with the Sparks Lake area between Batchelor and South Sister.
