Shangrila - 3.25.2022
We parked at the trailhead for the Boy Scout Trail in Joshua Tree National Park.

After hiking the Boy Scout Trail for less than a mile we can see Ellsmere Island in the distance... a popular rock climbing area that has 15 climbing routes ranging in difficulty from 5.7 to 5.11a.

After hiking a total of 1.3 miles we have left the Boy Scout Trail and are heading east.

After hiking a total of 1.6 miles we are starting to enter Shangrila.

After a very short scramble Shangrila opens up... and there is at least one rock for everyone!

We have decided to make a one mile loop hike inside Shangrila... the Matterhorn is what we call the one out there in the center of the photo.

Closing the loop portion of our hike in Shangrila... earlier in the day we came in through the gap over there on the left... and now we will exit via a gap over on the far right.

After hiking a total of 2.8 miles we are exiting from Shangrila.

After hiking a total of 3.3 miles we have rejoined the Boy Scout Trail.

Almost back to the parking lot... Mount Minerva Hoyt and Quail Mountain are the two high points on the right horizon... the total hike was 4.5 miles, gaining 240 feet of elevation.
