Tumalo Mountain - 6.22.2022

I parked at the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park... located across the Cascade Lakes Hwy from the Sunrise Lodge entrance to the Mount Bachelor Ski Area... South Sister and Middle Sister are visible in the distance to the north.

The trailhead for Tumalo Mountain Trail #38 is located at the north end of the sno-park.
IMG_3923.jpg
Patchy snow began immediately and quickly turned into steady snow... making it very difficult to actually follow the trail.
IMG_3926.jpg
After hiking less than a half mile I started to get peek-a-boo views of Mount Bachelor.
IMG_3930.jpg
Gaining elevation with every step I got this closeup peek-a-boo view of South Sister (left), Middle Sister and Broken Top.

Reeling in the summit area of Tumalo Mountain in the distance.

Nearing the summit of Tumalo Mountain... here looking north to South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top... with Tam McArthur Rim stretching from Broken Top in the middle of the photo to the right edge of the photo.

Just a couple hundred feet below the Tumalo summit area.
IMG_3936.jpg
Just below the Tumalo summit I took this pano of Mount Bachelor on the far left... and South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top on the far right.
IMG_3940.jpg
After hiking a total of 1.4 miles I am standing on the summit (7775') of Tumalo Mountain... looking north to South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top... with Tam McArthur Rim stretching from Broken Top to the right edge of the photo.
IMG_3943.jpg
The summit area of this shield volcano is quite large... here looking east toward Bend, Oregon on the far left... looking SE toward Sunriver and La Pine in the left center of the photo... and SW to Mount Bachelor on the right.

A closeup of South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top from the Tumalo summit.

Leaving the Tumalo summit and heading back down to my car... with views of Mount Bachelor dominating for a short time before getting back into the trees.
IMG_3947.jpg
Just before getting back to the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park I found the Swampy-Dutchman Trail #40 which will take me back to the sno-park... the trail is actually more like a forest service road than a trail, but if you follow it to the south it will take you over to the Swampy Lakes area.
IMG_3949.jpg
After hiking a total of 3 miles and gaining 1434 feet of elevation I have returned to the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park... with South Sister in the distance on the right.
