Mount Bachelor - 9.8.2022
I parked next to the Cascade Lakes Hwy at the gated entrance to the Sunrise Lodge at Mount Bachelor... I will head up to the Sunrise Chairlift which is just above the truck in the photo.
Looking down the Cascade Lakes Hwy from where I took the previous photo... and I can see South Sister and Middle Sister down there.
After hiking a quarter mile I have reached the bottom of the Sunrise Express Chairlift... just to the right there is an unsigned, but obvious trail.
My hiking partner today will be my shadow!
After hiking a total of a half-mile the trail joins one of the service roads at Mount Bachelor.
After hiking a total of 1.3 miles I will leave the service road and continue uphill on an unsigned, but obvious trail.
Shortly after leaving the service road I'm standing near the top of the Rainbow Chairlift... and looking over at the bottom of the Summit Chairlift... with the Three Sisters in the distance on the far right.
Every step higher gives a broader view... here looking north beyond the bottom of the Summit Chairlift at the Three Sisters and Broken Top.
Continuing to switchback my way up Mount Bachelor... here looking SE to Paulina Peak on the horizon in the middle of the photo... the haze is coming from the Cedar Creek fire.
Continuing to switchback my way up Mount Bachelor.
After hiking a total of 2.8 miles the trail will take me underneath the Summit Chairlift.
Nearing the Bachelor summit... here looking SW to the Crane Prairie Reservoir and part of the Cedar Creek fire... Cultus Mountain and Cultus Lake are in the far right foreground.
The Mount Bachelor summit is a stone's throw away... and I can see the top of North Sister through the gap on the far right.
Just below the Bachelor summit... looking north to the Three Sisters, Three Fingered Jack, Mount Jefferson, Broken Top, Mount Hood, Broken Hand and Ball Butte.
After hiking a total of 3.1 miles I am standing on the summit (9065') of Mount Bachelor... here looking SE to Paulina Peak on the far left horizon... looking SW to the Lava Lakes and Crane Prairie Reservoir in the center of the photo... looking west to Hosmer Lake and Elk Lake in the right center of the photo... and looking NW to part of Sparks Lake on the far right of the photo.
A closer look at the Cedar Creek fire... beyond Little Lava Lake and Lava Lake in the foreground... with Cultus Lake and Cultus Mountain beyond the Lava Lakes... with the top of Diamond Peak visible above the smoke on the left horizon.
This pano is from the SW (left) to the north on the right.
Looking north... Sparks Lake, Three Sisters and Broken Top stand out.
Most of the Mount Bachelor Ski area is visible in this photo.
My Molokai hiking shirt also made it to the summit.
Heading back to my car... more or less tracing my steps.
Tracing my steps back down the switchbacks... I can see the Sunrise Lodge down there in the center of the photo... with Tumalo Mountain across the highway from the lodge.
After hiking a total of 4.8 miles I have returned to the spot where the top of the Rainbow Chairlift kind of meets the bottom of the Summit Chairlift.
After hiking a total of 5 miles the trail joins the service road.
Back on the trail and nearing the Sunrise Lodge... leaving a quarter mile to get back to the car... the total hike was 6.2 miles, gaining 2658 feet of elevation.
