Point 5088 - 3.20.2023

IMG_6357.JPG
I parked at the Quail Springs Picnic Area in Joshua Tree National Park... and my plan is to scramble up to Point 5088... but I will go up from the other side by going up from Johnny Lang Canyon.

Hiking SW from the Quail Springs Picnic Area... following a nice unnamed trail that will take me into Johnny Lang Canyon.
IMG_6360.jpg
After hiking a total of .6 miles I have left the desert floor and starting to gain some elevation on my way to Johnny Lang Canyon.
IMG_6362.JPG
Continuing to gain some elevation on my way to Johnny Lang Canyon... getting closer to Point 5088.
IMG_6365.jpg
Continuing to Johnny Lang Canyon... with Lang Mine Peak on the left horizon... and Mt. Minerva Hoyt on the right-center horizon.
IMG_6367.jpg
After hiking a total of 1.9 miles I have entered Johnny Lang Canyon... and will now hike south in the canyon.
IMG_6374.JPG
I did Peak 5080 earlier this year... but on this hike I will go up to the saddle between Peak 5080 and the unnamed bump... then go on over to Point 5088.
IMG_6376.jpg
After hiking a total of 2.6 miles I am leaving Johnny Lang Canyon and heading up toward Peak 5080 on the right and working my way over to the saddle in the center of the photo.

IMG_6385.jpg
After hiking a total of 3 miles I have reached the saddle between Peak 5080 and the unnamed bump... now hiking north toward the unnamed bump which has a high point of 4953 feet.
IMG_6386.jpg
Heading for the high point of the unnamed bump... and now I can see Point 5088 in the distance.
IMG_6388.jpg
Hiking along the east side of the unnamed bump while the terrain keeps sending me up to the top of it.
IMG_6389.jpg
Scrambling up to the top of the unnamed bump.
IMG_6391.jpg
After hiking a total of 3.1 miles I am standing on top of the 4953 foot unnamed bump... looking north at Point 5088.
IMG_6392.jpg
Looks like fairly easy terrain to get off of the unnamed bump and down to the foot of Point 5088.
IMG_6393.jpg
Continuing down off of the 4953 foot unnamed bump.
IMG_6394.jpg
After hiking a total of 3.2 miles I am looking back at the unnamed bump on the right... with Peak 5080 in the left center of the photo... and it almost feels like a football field in the left foreground.
IMG_6395.jpg
Time to leave the football field and head up Point 5088.
IMG_6396.jpg
Gaining elevation as I head for the summit of Point 5088.

From the Point 5088 summit I am looking across Johnny Lang Canyon to Quail Mountain in the sunshine in the middle of the photo... with Mount Minerva Hoyt in the shade in front of Quail.
IMG_6407.jpg
Leaving the summit of Point 5088 and heading down to the football field.
IMG_6408.jpg
Nearing the football field... with the unnamed bump on the right... and Peak 5080 on the left... heading for the saddle between them... but this time I will go around the unnamed bump to get over to the saddle instead of tracing my steps over the unnamed bump to reach the saddle.
IMG_6410.jpg
Heading for the saddle by going around the unnamed bump.
IMG_6411.jpg
The terrain looks a bit challenging to get over to the saddle.
IMG_6412.jpg
Ugh... I will have to give up some elevation in order to get over to the saddle... maybe that is why I chose to go over the unnamed bump on my way to Point 5088.
IMG_6413.jpg
Working my way over to the saddle between the unnamed bump and Peak 5080.
IMG_6415.jpg
Looking back at Point 5088 as I continue hiking toward the saddle.

Heading for the desert floor on my way back to the car.
IMG_6432.jpg
After hiking a total of 6.1 miles I have returned to the desert floor... the rock formation in the foreground is Vagmarken Hill... a fun scramble.
IMG_6434.jpg
I'm a stone's throw from my car in the Quail Springs Picnic Area... the total hike was 6.7 miles, gaining 1706 feet of elevation.
