Crown Prince Lookout - 12.28.2023
We parked on the side of the Park Boulevard road... approximately a quarter-mile west of the entrance to the Jumbo Rocks Campground... we can see the Crown Prince Lookout on the far left horizon.
A short distance from where we parked... heading for the Crown Prince Lookout above Denali Girl's head in the distance... after the lookout we will visit the rock formation on the extreme far left horizon.
Getting closer to the Crown Point Lookout... and we will look for an easier route up it than what we see on the NW side in the photo.
We have reached the NW side of the Crown Prince Lookout... and begin to hike around to the east side of the lookout.
Hiking along the east side of the lookout... looking for a way to get up the steep rock.
Denali Girl is on the east side of the Crown Prince Lookout... very close to the 30 foot scramble that will get us up to the lookout.
After hiking a total of one mile Denali Girl has started working her way up the steep 30 foot scramble.
Almost to the top of the 30 foot scramble... back in the day there used to be a wooden staircase here.
Done with the scramble... and now doing a very comfortable hike to the lookout summit.
We can see the lookout summit out there in the middle of the photo.
Denali Girl is nearing the 4581 foot summit of the Crown Prince Lookout.
From the lookout summit I am looking west (left-center) across Queen Valley to Ryan Mountain... looking north (right-center) across Queen Valley to Queen Mountain... and looking NE (right) beyond the park boundary to Twentynine Palm Mountain and the Pinto Mountains.
From the summit of Crown Prince Lookout... looking east (left) to the Pinto Mountains... looking SE (center) to Pinto Basin (located 2500 feet below where I am standing)... looking south (center) to the Hexie Mountains... and looking SW (right) to the Little San Bernardino Mountains.
Denali Girl is tracing her steps back to where we can do the 30 foot scramble down from the lookout... Point 4558 is over there in the left foreground... a place where there are at least two abandoned mines.
Looking for that 30 foot scramble down to the desert floor.
Almost ready for the 30 foot scramble down to the desert floor.
Denali Girl works her way down the 30 foot scramble.
Point 4558 (location of the two abandoned mines) is in the right foreground... but we are heading for the unnamed rock formation in the middle of the photo.
We have found a huge labyrinth... located on the west side of Point 4558... with the Crown Prince Lookout in the right foreground.
Heading up to the unnamed rock formation... we will use the terrain in the middle of the photo.
Denali Girl stands on the summit (4520 feet) of the unnamed rock formation... with Point 4558 in the foreground... and Crown Prince Lookout in the right center of the photo.
Denali Girl has a nice place on the unnamed rock formation... with part of Point 4558 in the far left foreground... and part of the Crown Prince Lookout in the middle of the photo.
We are heading down from the unnamed rock formation.
Heading back to the car... and enjoying this awesome terrain.
Almost back to our car... with the unnamed rock formation on the left... Point 4558 in the left-center... and Crown Prince Lookout on the right... the total hike was 2.7 miles, gaining 381 feet of elevation.
