Tanzbodeli - 1.5.2024
We parked at the trailhead for Queen Mountain in Joshua Tree National Park... our car is on the right... and the Queen Mountain summit is on the horizon above our car. We will be heading for the low point on the horizon above the car on the left.
After hiking a half-mile we will leave the main trail at a huge pile of black rocks... and follow a nice path toward the low point on the ridge above.
Gaining elevation as we head for the low point on the ridge above.
Nearing the low point on the ridge... here looking back at Queen Valley where we parked... Ryan Mountain is the black bump in the distance on the right horizon.
After hiking a total of 1.2 miles we have reached a shelf on the west side of Queen Mountain... and we will head for the low point on the ridge to find another shelf.
Leaving our first shelf and heading up to the second shelf.
After hiking a total of 1.4 miles we have reached our second shelf.
Hiking north on the 4800 foot high shelf on the west side of Queen Mountain.
Continuing to hike north on the 4800 foot high shelf on the west side of Queen Mountain... the massive rock formation in the distance above Denali Girl's head is a target.
After hiking a total of 2.1 miles we have left the second shelf and are heading for the massive rock formation that we first saw in the previous photo.
A very easy scramble will help us gain 60 feet of elevation up to the Tanzbodeli Highway.
Continuing to work our way up to the Tanzbodeli Highway.
Continuing to work our way up to the Tanzbodeli Highway.
Continuing to work our way up to the Tanzbodeli Highway.
Continuing to work our way up to the Tanzbodeli Highway.
We have reached the Tanzbodeli Highway... and around the corner we will see Tanzbodeli.
After hiking a total of 2.3 miles we have reached the east side of Tanzbodeli.
Denali Girl is heading for the high point of Tanzbodeli out there on the horizon above her head.
It isn't exactly a level hike out to the Tanzbodeli high point.
Denali Girl heads for the Tanzbodeli high point.
Denali Girl reels in the Tanzbodeli high point.
After hiking a total of 2.5 miles Denali Girl sits on the 4862 foot high point located at the west end of the Tanzbodeli area.
From the Tanzbodeli high point I took this pano looking back where we came from... with higher sections of Queen Mountain on the horizon.
We will hike over and explore the Tanzbodeli dining room in the left foreground... but have to get across a couple of little canyons to get over there.
Star Dancer has been waiting for us at the Tanzbodeli dining room.
Leaving Tanzbodeli.
Watching Star Dancer scramble back down to the shelf where we had to gain 60 feet of elevation to reach Tanzbodeli.
Almost back down to the shelf.
Back on our second shelf where we will trace our steps back for a short distance before exploring another section.
After leaving Tanzbodeli and tracing our steps back for less than a third of a mile we left the shelf and started gaining some elevation as we started getting closer to the walls of rock on the east side of the shelf.
Gaining some elevation on the east side of the shelf... here looking back toward the location of Tanzbodeli in the middle of the photo.
Continuing to explore and gain elevation above the shelf... hiking south and looking for a way to rejoin the shelf.
Hiking south and looking for a route that will get us back to the shelf.
Hiking south and looking for a route that will get us back to the shelf.
We can see our shelf of interest in the upper right corner of the photo... and we can also see Ryan Mountain on the horizon.
Denali Girl is getting ready to return to the shelf.
Leaving the first shelf and getting ready to hike down to Queen Valley.
Returning to Queen Valley.
Almost back to that huge pile of black rocks... where we will join the main trail.
You probably can't see our cars in the middle of the photo... but we can see them... the hike was a total of 5.3 miles, gaining 736 feet of elevation.
