Point 4964 - 2.19.2024
We parked at the unsigned trailhead for Queen Mountain... and we will start hiking cross-country immediately toward the small bump out there on the right-center horizon... Queen Mountain is the massive formation that dominates the photo.
Pretty much a flat hike as we near that bump which has some massive boulders in front of it.
After hiking a total of one mile we have reached those massive boulders in front of Point 4964.
Point 4964 is behind the massive boulders... so we will hike up into the boulders and try to work our way around to the left in order to get up to Point 4964.
Continuing to work our way up around the boulders.
Continuing to work our way up around the boulders.
What happened here?
We have almost reached the backside of the massive boulders.
Nearing the top of the massive boulders... looking back at where we came from... with Queen Mountain in the right foreground... looking across Queen Valley to Ryan Mountain on the left horizon and Quail Mountain on the center horizon.
We have reached the backside of the massive boulders... and they are inviting us to visit.
Star Dancer took this photo of Denali Girl and me exploring the massive boulders.

Getting ready to get on the high point on the left while looking through the gap to part of Queen Valley.
I have reached the high point of the massive boulders... and you can barely see Denali Girl on the right.
Denali Girl coming over to join me.
Star Dancer took this shot of me on top of the massive boulders.
Star Dancer took this photo of me coming down from the massive boulders... now it is time to hike on up to the summit of Point 4964.
We have left the massive boulders and working our way up to a nice view point in the distance.
Looking back at the massive boulders as we continue gaining elevation toward Point 4964.
Continuing to gain elevation behind the massive boulders.
Continuing to gain elevation behind the massive boulders.
Denali Girl has found a nice view point at approximately 4800 feet.
Looking back down at the massive boulders from the 4800 foot view point.
We still need to gain 150 feet of elevation to get over to Point 4964 in the distance.
Almost at the summit of Point 4964.
After hiking a total of 1.75 miles I am standing on the summit of Point 4964... looking north (left) at the east end of Queen Mountain... NE (middle) toward the Contact Mine and Twentynine Palms Mountain... East (right) toward Pine City (not really visible).
From the summit of Point 4964... looking south (left) across Queen Valley to Negro Hill in the left foreground... SSW (left-center) to Ryan Mountain... SW (right-center) to Quail Mountain... west and NW to Queen Mountain in the right foreground.
Returning from Point 4964 and the 4800 foot view point... giving up some elevation... with Negro Hill in the right foreground.
Continuing to give up elevation as we head down to explore more massive boulders.
We are down on the opposite side of that first group of massive boulders we reached earlier in the day.
Exploring a cave.
The same cave as in the previous photo.... huge!
Star Dancer crawling out of one of the caves.
Another cave.
What happened here?
So many rock formations to explore... but so little time.
Denali Girl found this nice ramp.
Find Denali Girl.
Find Star Dancer and Denali Girl... with Queen Mountain on the horizon.
Leaving the incredible rock formations and more or less tracing our steps back to the car.
Star Dancer took this photo of me with my shadow on the rock.
Hiking back to the car... here looking back at the massive rock formation and Point 4964 in the center of the photo.
Tracing our steps back to the car.
A stone's throw from the car... the total hike was 3.5 miles, gaining 498 feet of elevation.
