Tumalo Mountain - 5.14.2024

We parked at the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park... across the road from the Sunrise Lodge entrance to Mount Bachelor.

Leaving the Sno-Park and immediately starting to gain elevation.

Our snowshoes were incredibly helpful... with the 'heel ascenders' making the steep elevation gain a lot easier.

Gaining elevation through the trees on Tumalo Mountain... with Mount Bachelor becoming more visible the higher we go.

Our first good look at the summit area of Tumalo Mountain.

Here comes Denali Girl... with every step being uphill... and with Mount Bachelor on the horizon.

Still gaining elevation on Tumalo Mountain... here looking east toward Swampy Lakes and the city of Bend, Oregon... with a prescribed burn taking place.

On the southern end of the very large Tumalo summit area... looking east at the prescribed burn... and looking SW at Mount Bachelor on the right.

After snowshoeing 1.6 miles and gaining 1,430 feet of elevation we have reached the 7,775 foot summit of Tumalo Mountain... here looking NW ( left to right ) at South Sister, Middle Sister and Broken Top... with part of the Tam McArthur Rim on the right horizon.

Time to leave the Tumalo summit area and take a slightly more direct route back down to the Sno-Park.

We are a stone's throw from the Sno-Park... and the total snowshoe was 3.0 miles, gaining 1,430 feet of elevation.
