Mount Bachelor - 8.14.2024

IMG_0696.jpg
I parked just off of the Cascade Lakes Hwy at the gated entrance to Mount Bachelor's Sunrise Lodge... and I can see my destination up above.
IMG_0698.jpg
I'm a stone's throw from where I parked... walking through the Sunrise Lodge parking lot... with the Sunrise Lodge over there on the left... and I'm heading for the base of the Sunrise Express Chairlift in the middle of the photo.
IMG_0700.jpg
I have started hiking up along the right side of the Sunrise Express Chairlift on a fairly good boot path... my hiking partner today will be my shadow.
IMG_0706.jpg
Continuing uphill... no longer on a boot path. Having done this hike several times I know that I can find the 'Summit East' trail up by the top of the Sunrise Express Chairlift.
IMG_0707.jpg
Continuing to hike cross-country I can see the blue roof of the top of the Sunrise Express Chairlift... so I will head over that way and get on the 'Summit East' trail.
IMG_0708.jpg
After hiking a little over 1 mile I have gained 900 feet of elevation and found the 'Summit East' trail... and I'm glad to be done with the cross-country stuff.
IMG_0710.jpg
Continuing uphill on the 'Summit East' trail... with the Three Sisters and Broken Top on the horizon... you can see the bottom of the Summit Express Charilift in the right-center of the photo.
IMG_0712.jpg
Continuing uphill on the 'Summit East' trail... here looking back down at the top of the Sunrise Express Chairlift and the bottom of the Summit Express Chairlift... Tumalo Mountain is on the other side of the Cascade Lakes Hwy... with the Three Sisters and Broken Top on the left horizon.

Paintbrush at 7800 feet along side the Summit East trail.
IMG_0720.jpg
Continuing to gain elevation on the Summit East trail... I can see the top of the Summit Express Chairlift up there... but I can't see the summit of Mount Bachelor yet.
IMG_0722.jpg
Looking back down toward the Sunrise Lodge on this side of the Cascade Lakes Hwy... with Tumalo Mountain on the other side of the highway.
IMG_0724.jpg
Continuing to gain elevation on the Summit East trail and getting closer to the top of the Summit Express Chairlift.
IMG_0728.jpg
The Summit East trail is taking me underneath the top of the Summit Express Chairlift.
IMG_0731.jpg
Gaining elevation on the Summit East trail... but I still can't see the summit of Mount Bachelor... but I can see the Crane Prairie Reservoir out there in the distance.
IMG_0732.jpg
Looking back at the top of the Summit Express Chairlift as I continue hiking on the Summit East trail.
IMG_0733.jpg
Finally I can see the Bachelor summit area out there in the distance... and I can see North Sister through the gap on the far right.
IMG_0735.jpg
Almost on the Bachelor summit... here looking out to the Three Sisters and Broken Top on the horizon... with the West Village Lodge way down below in the right center of the photo... and the Sunrise Lodge on the right edge of the photo.
IMG_0736.JPG
Looking SW from the Bachelor summit area.
IMG_0737.JPG
Looking west from the Bachelor summit area.
IMG_0738.JPG
Looking NW and north from the Bachelor summit area.
IMG_0740a.jpg
I have reached the Mount Bachelor summit (9065 feet) after hiking 2.6 miles... here looking north in the middle of the photo... and looking NE on the right.
IMG_0744.JPG
Looking north from the Bachelor summit... the Pine Marten Lodge is 1400 feet higher than the West Village Lodge... and lots of double black diamond ski runs originate from the Pine Marten Lodge area.
IMG_0748.jpg
I have left the Bachelor summit area and I'm heading back over to top of the Summit Express Chairlift... more or less tracing my steps back down to the car.
IMG_0750.jpg
Heading back down the Summit East trail... with a nice look at the Cascade Lakes Hwy coming over from the town of Bend.
IMG_0752.jpg
Tracing my steps back down the Summit East trail.
IMG_0755.jpg
Tracing my steps back down the Summit East trail.
IMG_0762.jpg
Tracing my steps back down the Summit East trail... I can see the bottom of the Summit Express Chairlift on the left... and the top of the Sunrise Express Chairlift in the middle of the photo... and it looks like there is a good trail just to the right of the Sunrise Express Chairlift.
IMG_0764.jpg
I have reached the top of the Sunrise Express Chairlift... here looking back up toward the Bachelor summit area... and this is where the Summit East trail begins to go up to the summit area.
IMG_0765.jpg
The Fly Creek Trail... this is the trail that I saw two photos ago... and I have decided to take it down so that I can avoid the cross-country hiking as much as possible.
IMG_0766.jpg
The Fly Creek Trail is taking me underneath the Sunrise Express Chairlift.
IMG_0767.jpg
The Fly Creek Trail is taking me down in a wooded area... much easier and aesthetic than going cross-country.
IMG_0768.jpg
Still going downhill on the Fly Creek Trail... and I can see the Sunrise Lodge down below... so all is good so far.
IMG_0769.jpg
I know that the Fly Creek Trail goes on over to the West Village Lodge... so after hiking almost a mile on it I have decided to leave the trail and head cross-country down to the Sunrise Lodge in the distance on the right.
IMG_0770.jpg
Hiking cross-country on my way down to the Sunrise Lodge.
IMG_0772.jpg
I have reached the Sunrise Lodge parking lot near the bottom of the Sunrise Express Chairlift... looking back up to Mount Bachelor... the hike was a total of 5.5 miles, gaining 2658 feet of elevation.
