Crown Prince Lookout - 12.1.2024
We parked in a dirt pull-out on Park Blvd in Joshua Tree National Park... located approximately a quarter-mile west from the entrance to the Jumbo Rocks Campground. We will hike across the desert to the south from where we parked.
Continuing to hike south from where we parked... we could pass all of the rock formations if we wanted to... but we decided to explore some of the rocks on our way out to the Crown Prince Lookout.
Crown Prince Lookout is out there on the right... as we continue hiking toward it... but first, let's explore some of the rocks in the foreground.
Getting ready to do some rock yoga!
Going to work our way through some of these rock formations.

Continuing to hike south... is that a massive turtle in the middle of the photo?
We are done with the rock scrambling... and now we can see the Crown Prince Lookout in the distance.
Hiking along the NE side of Crown Prince... heading for the gap in the left-center of the photo.
We are very close to the scramble portion of the hike that will get us up to the Crown Prince Lookout.

Just a stroll to get over to the Crown Prince Lookout in the left-center of the photo... with Queen Mountain on the right horizon.
Denali Girl is very close to where the Crown Prince Lookout used to be located.
After hiking a total of 1.1 miles Denali Girl has arrived where the Crown Prince Lookout used to be located... looking west across Queen Valley to Ryan Mountain on the right horizon... and looking SW across the valley to Lost Horse Mountain.
There was a summit register... so we signed in.
Denali Girl relaxing on the Crown Prince Lookout... here looking north to Queen Mountain on the horizon.
From our summit we are looking NE (left)... with Pinto Basin (center) to the SE... and the Hexie Mountains (right-center foreground) to the south... and part of the Little San Bernardino Mountains (right) to the SW.

Denali Girl took this photo of me working the scramble portion of getting down from Crown Prince.
Down from Crown Prince and beginning our hike back to the car.
Hiking north back to our car... but we aren't going to do any rock scrambling on the way back... with Queen Mountain on the horizon.
Almost back to our car.
Our car is a stone's throw away... the total hike was 2.2 miles, gaining 233 feet of elevation.
