Hemingway Loop - 11.7.2025

From the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park we drove Park Boulevard a quarter mile past the main parking lot for Hemingway and parked in a paved pull-out... here looking at the east side of the huge Hemingway buttress.

We start hiking in a clockwise direction around Hemingway.

Hiking around the south side of Hemingway.

We have entered the northern section of Hidden Valley and will be hiking north along the west side of Hemingway.

We will be heading for the 'V' out there on the horizon in the middle of the photo.

Continuing to hike north on the west side of Hemingway.

Looking back down Hidden Valley... and we can see Ryan Mountain on the horizon in the middle of the photo.

Still hiking north on the west side of Hemingway... according to the 'Mountain Project' website Hemingway has 58 climbing routes on it. That would be 58 of the more than 10,000 climbing routes in Joshua Tree National Park.

Looking at Hemingway from the north side... supposedly there are scrambly paths up the 3 passes that we see between the high rocks... mostly used by climbers.

We have rounded the northern end of Hemingway and are back on the east side... heading back to our car.

Almost back to the car... the total hike was 1.7 miles, gaining 136 feet of elevation.
