Mount Scott - 10.5.2026
We parked on the east side of Crater Lake at the Mount Scott Trailhead... located at 7,680 feet of elevation.
Looking up at Mount Scott as we begin hiking on the excellent trail.
We lose the view of the Mount Scott summit fairly quickly as we head into the trees along the west side of the mountain.
Out of the trees as we continue to steadily gain elevation on the south side of the mountain.
Out onto the south rim of Mount Scott at 8,560 feet... and we can see the summit lookout out there on the far left horizon.
Our view of Crater Lake from where I took the previous photo... and the photo includes our view of the 9,184 foot Mount Thielsen ( the little nipple out there on the right horizon ) which is known as the 'lightning rod of the Cascades'.
A closer look at Crater Lake taken from the same place as the previous two photos.
Continuing on over toward the summit of Mount Scott.
We have reached the 8,938 foot summit of Mount Scott after hiking 2.25 miles and looking out to Crater Lake... and the summit lookout is inaccessible.
Tracing our steps back down to the trailhead... the total hike was 4.5 miles, gaining 1,302 feet of elevation.
